recent years, the department has been actively involved in the teaching of the
gifted and talented pupils from its feeder primary schools. This has been
facilitated by the use of Jaguar Maths Software. This was initially introduced
by four teachers from Freeston
Academy who visited local
primary schools to deliver the programme. The culmination of the programme was
a Grand Final between Champions from each primary school competing, at Freeston Academy, for the Champion of Champions title.
This has helped pupils to prepare for the transition from primary to secondary
school and has also had a positive impact on primary schools’ SATs level 5+
results. The programme has been so successful that we continue to deliver it
through our Primary School Liaison Teacher.
